Welcome To Counselling4you's "Creative Shop" Please browse through our shop, if you are in any doubt about anything or have any questions please As integrative counsellors we embrace many creative tools in our counselling. Every person learns and expresses them selves in different ways visually, auditory, sensory, and so on. Talky therapy can fall down because there can be little flexibility to assist the client if an issue has been addressed verbally without coming to a satisfactory resolution. |

We believe this is where creative counselling comes into it's own. Not every one is articulate , some problems are pre-verbal, some people naturally use their left brain ( logic, conscious, cognitive, etc) and some their right brain ( deeper parts of unconsciousness, creative expressive). By using many different interventions we can explore and reach deep, suppressed, repressed memories and emotions that have been locked away to keep us "safe" because we fear remembering therefore shut down our ability to recall events. Most of these interventions are extremely useful and helpful when working with a clients inner child or children. |

I have given a few examples of how these tools can be used, by the very nature of being "creative tools" there are no limits to what they could be used for. Puppets can be used in many ways, for example, many clients project their "stuff" onto a puppet. They can use it as a third person to express their thoughts and feelings to someone because they are frightened, ashamed or guilty to do so from their own mouths. Or the puppets could represent some one from the past who has has a positive or negative influence on them. Sometimes when we are small, we may turn to a teddy or other soft toy for comfort, we cuddle up to them at night and they can bring us friendship and consolidation.. Maybe these friends have been taken away or lost over time, by working with similar toys many old emotions and feelings can rise that may have also been discarded and forgotten. A selection of post cards can be used to get behind a client's cognitive thought process to more unconscious material. Using a variety of visual images with colours, shapes, objects and situations can bring up likes, dislikes and strong feelings in the most unexpected way. Russian dolls can be used to illustrate our inner child/children, family and other dynamics and important relationships. The blank ones are better for projecting identities onto and possibly painting on to to alter feelings and perceptions. Finger puppets can help the client to tell their story in a more detached way, again very helpful for work with inner children. Characters in the clients life can be grouped together, e.g. the "good" people on one hand and the "bad" people on the other. hand . Or the good parts of our self on hand the bad parts of our self on the other. Jellycats can be very effective for exploring family constellations, power/love axes etc. Faces can look too cheerful- you may like to change their expressions Different coloured pebbles can be sorted to represent different feelings of shame, hate, love, God, hope etc and can represent memories of people ,places, things and so on. Holding Crosses Plastic/wooden animals for exploring different parts of our selves , our different relationships and dynamics in work, family and friends. E.g. a lion for someone you know is brave, a snake for someone isn't so nice, a crocodile for a dangerous person and so on. If you were an animal what would you be? Painting and drawing can be used for expressing so much in unlimited ways, shapes, colours, situations, experiences, memories, voices, emotion, sizes of people in relation to other people and things We nor our clients need to be artistic in any shape or form, it is an expression of self, the important thing is not the skills in drawing, painting etc but what it represents and symbolises. There is no wrong way of doing this or not being good enough. |
